Closing the Loop: Insights from the YOU-Cycle Final Webinar
On February 25, the YOU-Cycle project hosted its final dissemination webinar, bringing together participants from across Europe for a 90-minute online discussion on how circular economy principles can strengthen youth engagement and social entrepreneurship in higher education and vocational schools.
Partnering with YouthProAktiv, Espacio Geranios, Eko Greece, IRCEM, and EIG, all expressed their gratitude for the collaboration and learning experience, further highlighting the importance of international collaboration.
Expert panelists Tomás Teicher, Lorena Silvestri, and Loredana Rhazzali shared insights on the current gaps between education systems and the needs of a circular economy. They emphasized that sustainability is often taught theoretically, while traditional curricula leaves little room for innovation and real-world problem solving. The panel stressed the importance of embedding circular economy principles into education and connecting learning to local challenges.
Several inspiring initiatives were also presented, including a youth-led environmental education program in Argentina, a Changemaker program in Costa Rica, and Climathon events in Romania, where multidisciplinary student teams work together to develop solutions to local climate issues. These examples demonstrated the power of hands-on learning, collaboration, and youth leadership.
During breakout discussions, participants highlighted the need for flexible curricula, practical learning experiences, and collaboration. The webinar concluded with the presentation of the YOU-Cycle project resources, including guidelines on circular economy and social entrepreneurship, as well as training handbooks for educators and youth leaders.
